Strategy and Proof of Concept

It never ceases to amaze me just how complex a strategy can be for a new startup.  Why is that?  It probably has something to do with a correlation between how impressed someone is at a cocktail party with complexity.

The problem is, a startup does not get paid by cocktail party patrons, a startup gets paid by customers.. and what customers want is the most simple solution POSSIBLE.. and just like in engineering, every new set of complexity makes a product exponentially (not linearly) more difficult to use!

Which reminds me of a quote by Al Einstein that says something to the matter of: “Things should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.”

Which brings me to the next point: proof of concept.

It seems, startups get caught up in their own complexity of starting up.  Who should I hire for my accountant, who should be my lawyer, what should be the terms of founder stock, etc?

This happens all BEFORE they even know whether a customer wants to buy.

Keep it simple stupid and focus on first things first.  When there is money and customer demand the small things ALWAYS take care of themselves, fraud withstanding.

OK, rant complete.
